The Amarrass Desert Music Festival 2011 brought together some of the world's finest folk musicians on one stage in New Delhi — and this album is the document. Featuring Vieux Farka Touré (Mali), Madou Sidiki Diabaté (Mali), Lakha Khan, Barmer Boys and more, it remains one of the most remarkable world music concerts ever staged in India.
Also featuring Nihal Khan — the blind singer from Sanawada, Rajasthan, whose voice NPR journalist Michael Sullivan described as "sweet as honey." A cross-cultural feast: desert blues from West Africa meeting the Sufi devotion of Rajasthan, recorded live with all the electricity of the night.
