Lakha Khan – At Home
₹499.00Price
Padma Shri Lakha Khan, recipient of India's highest civilian honor in 2021, is perhaps the greatest living exponent of the Sindhi sarangi. This complex, 26/27-string bowed instrument requires an astonishing level of virtuosity to tame, and Lakha Khan stands as one of the last remaining Manganiyars to have truly mastered its magnificent voice. Recorded live in single takes at his home in Raneri, Rajasthan in 2012, this album documents an unparalleled giant of the oral tradition. Sings effortlessly across a vast repertoire of regional languages including Sindhi, Punjabi, Hindi, and Marwari, guiding the listener through ancient classical ragas, ecstatic Sufi kalaams by poets Ghulam Farid and Bulleh Shah, and profound Kabir bhajans. His first public performances date back to the late 1960s, and this recording captures that lifetime of heritage with absolute presence.
