Barmer Boys – At Home

Recorded in a single take in May 2012 at the home of Manga, lead singer of the Barmer Boys, in Ramsar village, Barmer District, Rajasthan, India, this raw and intimate recording captures the spirit of Rajasthan’s living folk traditions in their purest form. Originally released in December 2012 in India and April 2013 in the US & Benelux.
Featured on Season 3 of Coke Studio @ MTV, Barmer Boys represent a bold new generation of Indian folk music — folk with attitude, energy, and a contemporary edge. Led by the powerful vocals of Mangey Khan and the dynamic percussion of Rais Khan (morchang, bhapang, khartal & beat-boxing), the trio blends centuries-old Manganiyar traditions with Sufi, qawwali, and folk influences from across the Indian subcontinent.
Though still young performers, the Barmer Boys carry forward an extraordinary musical legacy while creating a sound that feels unmistakably modern, vibrant, and global.
