Banko Ghodo

Banko Ghodo translates to majestic horse. This is the definitive second volume in the celebrated Amarrass desert field recording series, delivering an incredibly dramatic, wide-open acoustic perspective of the Thar. Recorded in December 2010 in single takes, direct to two-channel analogue tape inside the homes of rural musicians. This album is dedicated to the enduring memory of Rukma Bai, one of the last great female Manganiyar singers, who passed away shortly after these winter sessions were completed. Her powerful voice on this record stands as a final, historic testament to an ancestral lineage. The album also features the soaring, transcendent vocal delivery of lead singer Mangey Khan, creating a raw desert soundscape as vast as the sky.
